Quality Management
Operational Excellence in Quality Management – Reducing Customer Complaints in the Long Term

The task/mission
Further development of an existing quality management system into an effective management and improvement tool for the entire organisation.
The company
An Austrian mechanical engineering company operating internationally, specialising in mechanical and electronic products. It employs around 900 people across nine European sites.
The situation
The company had been ISO 9001-certified for over 20 years. However, improvement processes failed to gain sufficient momentum of their own and were not sufficiently embedded in day-to-day operations. The existing quality management system was largely perceived as a formal requirement.
The requirements and expectations
Establish quality management as an effective tool for business management. Accelerate improvement processes, reduce customer complaints and strengthen the organisation’s sense of personal responsibility.
My role
Taking responsibility for the further development of quality management. Building an effective QM leadership team and ensuring that continuous improvement processes are firmly embedded within the organisation.
The solution
Reorientation of quality management with a stronger focus on operational effectiveness and measurable results.
Involvement of internal and external experts, systematic use of audits and continuous improvement processes, and the introduction of a company-wide improvement programme.
Integration of quality management and lean management to achieve sustainable improvements in production processes.
The long-term benefits for the company
A reduction in customer complaints of more than 35 per cent through systematic error analysis and consistent improvement measures.
A sustainable increase in productivity by embedding quality management and continuous improvement into day-to-day operations.
